The College is pleased to congratulate Professor Michael Kidd on his recent appointment as President-elect of WONCA – the World Organization of Family Doctors. His appointment was announced at this week’s WONCA World Council meeting in Cancun, Mexico. Professor Kidd served the RACGP with distinction as our president from 2002–2006 and will make a very positive contribution to general practice and family medicine on the world stage. We wish him all the best in his new role. Professor Kidd will take on the responsibilities of president for a 3 year term beginning 2013. The RACGP would also like to acknowledge Professor Richard Roberts who will commence as WONCA President for 2010–2013 this week.
The College would like to take this opportunity to congratulate two other members of our College: Dr Karen Flegg, RACGP NSW&ACT Faculty Board member, has been appointed editor of WONCA News; and Dr Naomi Harris, GP Registrar Representative on RACGP Council, has helped to reinvigorate junior doctors’ WONCA involvement through the Rajakumar Movement – The Wonca Asia Pacific Working Party for Young and Future Family Doctors. Over 700 junior doctors attended the WONCA meeting – this is testament to the success of this and similar movements around the globe.
Many members of our College contribute to the work of WONCA. This contribution strengthens our College and general practice internationally, and is greatly appreciated.
M5 encourages men and those who care about them to recognise the importance of men forming an ongoing relationship with a GP.
