Improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is one of Australia’s highest health priorities. The College is committed to raising awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health needs. As a result, the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health has been formed to help ‘close the gap’. By understanding the cultural context, the faculty hopes to advocate for culturally appropriate health delivery systems that will improve health outcomes for Indigenous Australians. The faculty board will be overseeing a number of education and advocacy initiatives in 2010–2011 and will hold its first annual general meeting in 2011.
The membership drive for the faculty is now fully operational. If you are an RACGP member and have an interest in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health, work in an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clinic, would like to know more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and/or would like to inform the faculty what form of support would best assist you, please join the faculty by downloading the membership form at www.racgp.org.au/aboriginalhealth/membership. Please note that RACGP membership is a prerequisite. If you are not a member but would like to be, please visit www.racgp.org.au/joinandrenew.
M5 encourages men and those who care about them to recognise the importance of men forming an ongoing relationship with a GP.
