The RACGP appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Public Administration to provide input to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Agreement Senate Inquiry. A number of COAG reforms are welcomed by the College, including focus on, and investment in, primary healthcare, general practice infrastructure, vocational and prevocational training, and e-health. We also highlighted concerns, including the proposed funding arrangements for aged care, mental health, after hours care, the diabetes program, and patient travel and accommodation schemes. The College advised that further consideration, investment and professional consultation regarding these important areas is needed to ensure that proposed changes are workable, support high quality patient care and build on existing systems.
