23 July 2010 Diabetes program advisory group – the College’s participation

The Federal Government has appointed an advisory group to help the government deliver better services for Australians with diabetes. The College fully supports the aims of the government to improve care for people with diabetes. However, as currently proposed, we don’t think the program will achieve this aim and as a result the government’s diabetes program does not have College support (see our 14 July media release at www.racgp.org.au/media2010/38317). This is an important opportunity to create a program that works for patients with diabetes and for general practice. Meaningful consultation with general practice and with people with diabetes is essential to move this program forward. We need a program that will improve the health of people with diabetes. Keep sending your thoughts to advocacy@racgp.org.au.
