The Department of Health and Ageing has funded a new initiative, the Rural Locum Education Assistance Program (LEAP). The program will be piloted in 2010 and administered in conjunction with the Rural Procedural Grants Program (formerly titled the Training for Rural and Remote Procedural GPs Program). Grants are available to urban GPs who undertake emergency medicine training and commit to a 4 week rural GP locum placement within a 2 year period. Successful applicants will be able to receive up to 3 days of emergency medicine training at $2000 per day. GPs must apply to either the RACGP or the ACRRM. Visit www.racgp.org.au/rural/traininggrants or call 1800 636 764.
M5 encourages men and those who care about them to recognise the importance of men forming an ongoing relationship with a GP.
