The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners

12 February 2010 MBS joint injection item numbers

The RACGP has received several member enquiries regarding the removal of the MBS Item numbers 50124 and 50125 for injection into a joint or other synovial cavity, as part of the 2009–2010 Federal Budget. The college advised against this decision and continues to advocate for the items to be reinstated. Two letters have been developed for patients to send to their local Members of Parliament to voice their concerns when they are either out-of-pocket due to the removal of the items, or referred for this procedure. These letters can be downloaded from the college website at www.racgp.org.au/medicare/letters. The college welcomes further feedback on this issue, including your thoughts on the letters, and this can be provided at this site.
